South Africa’s Water-Energy-Food Nexus in the context of Climate Change: A Research Agenda
This paper written by project members Mark Swilling, Garth Malan and Lourens Swart, in co-operation with Mlondi Ndovela and Alboricah Rathupetsane from the Centre for Sustainability Transitions (CST) at Stellenbosch University, was prepared for “Workstream 5: Water, energy & food in the context of climate change of the Southern Africa” as part of the project titled “Towards Inclusive Economic Development (SA-TIED)”.
This paper provides an overview of current literature on the WEF Nexus, as well as a report on the state of the water, energy and food sectors in South Africa. Moreover, it provides summaries of the focus areas of the WEF Nexus CC SA-TIED project.
